Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver going to ‘The Avengers’ not ‘X-Men’

Scarlet Witch & Quicksilver going to the Avengers and not the X-Men franchise

The Avengers 2 is almost exactly 2 years away (1 May 2015), but details of the early drafts are leaking out. Of those are that Quicksilver and The Scarlet Witch are being claimed by Disney/Marvel Studios—meaning that they will never make it into a movie with the other X-Men (and, you know, their dad: Magneto).

This might be the greatest example of the differences between the comic-book universe and the movie universe. Where as the comics love to throw X-Men and Avengers at each other, one movie can never mention the other directly. Why? 20th Century Fox locked up the rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four about the same time that Sony locked up the rights to Spider-Man. And, yes, that means that Spider-Man is off limits in the Avengers movies, too.

As such, there are two very large Spider-Man and Wolverine-shaped holes in the Disney Avengers movies that don’t look like they’ll be filled any time soon. At least we get Wanda, though, right?
