Ben Stiller Bringing Gay Teen Comedy “Alex Strangelove” To Netflix

From director Craig Johnston (The Skeleton Twins) andproduced by Ben Stiller, Alex Strangelove is the tale of how a high school senior (Daniel Doheny) plans on losing his virginity to his girlfriend (Beach Rats’ Madeline Weinstein). Things get complicated when he meets “a handsome and charming gay kid from the other side of town” (Antonio Marziale) who unwittingly sends him on a journey of sexual identity.

So, a twist on the standard “gotta lose my virginity” tale? OK. Also a bit of a play for the Love, Simon crowd.

Johnson describes the movie as “a fun, funny, and flirty film located down the street from Pretty in Pink, around the corner from Superbad, and right next door to new neighbor Love, Simon.”

Strangelove will be released on Netflix June 8. Just in time for this year’s pride.
