The trailer for the new Netflix film about a gay highschooler dropped today. We’ve covered this film before, and the trailer seems to double down on the idea of it being a novel twist on the standard 90s “gotta lose my v card” fare.
This positions the film somewhere between Love, Simon, and 🐓Blockers. Watch the first trailer below before the film bows on Netflix June 8.
From director Craig Johnston (The Skeleton Twins) and produced by Ben Stiller, Alex Strangelove is the tale of how a high school senior (Daniel Doheny) plans on losing his virginity to his girlfriend (Beach Rats’ Madeline Weinstein). Things get complicated when he meets “a handsome and charming gay kid from the other side of town” (Antonio Marziale) who unwittingly sends him on a journey of sexual identity.
Johnson describes the movie as “a fun, funny, and flirty film located down the street from Pretty in Pink, around the corner from Superbad, and right next door to new neighbor Love, Simon.”
Strangelove will be released on Netflix June 8. Just in time for this year’s pride.
